Windows 7 Ultimate – First Impressions
Posted January 14th, 2009 by chrisWell, being that I feel like I work for a company that is cutting edge, so after reading some good initial reviews, I took the plunge and installed Windows 7. I picked up a Western Digital 640GB Black Edition Hard drive. Want a HD Tune? I suppose. A bit faster than my 6400AAKS
Not much difference.
So far, so good. The installation took about 15 minutes, which was nice.
I’ll make a short run down of what’s good and bad so far as I’m typing to yall on the installation now.
Good:
- 1. On initial installation, just about every single driver was installed. Windows updates took care of the rest. Compared to Windows XP 64, this was a nice treat.
- 2. It’s pretty.
- 3. Pin and Unpin to the task bar is a pretty nice feature, actually.
Bad:
- 1. Google Chrome doesn’t seem to work. No websites will load on it for some reason.
- 2. Windows 7 seems to be having some sort of problems with my Gigabyte I-RAM.
Also, the Windows Performance Index Scale [a feature from Vista] now goes from 1 to 7.9
My main machine scored as follows:
- CPU: 7.2
- Memory: 7.2
- Desktop Graphics: 7.9
- Gaming Graphics: 5.9
- Overall: 5.9
