External Display + Old Macbook Pro [ATI based graphics]
Posted January 20th, 2009 by chrisWe’reĀ descendingĀ into new depths of nerdyness.
This probably isn’t news to some people, but I thought it was worth posting about. By default with macbook pro’s running bootcamp/windows xp, you can’t utilize a single external display. With some trickery and hackery, you can install other sets of drivers and make this work. I have done this successfully with the Nvidia based macbook pro’s documented here. Now I’ve done it with ATI based MPB’s. Read on
After some tinkering, MBP’s running Bootcamp with Windows XP with the X1600 ATI card can also easily use a single external display. This option is not available by default, but with the help of the ATI Catalyst Control Center [CCC], and Omega Catalyst Drivers, you can have your external display be your only display.
Install the Omega Drivers, Then the ATI CCC [make sure to have Microsoft .NET 2.0 updated before you install the ATI CCC.]
Once everything is kosher, you use the “Basic” configuration Wizard with the CCC, and select a single display of your external display.
